Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), stated on Friday that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s efforts need to be acknowledged.
The chief minister reportedly visited Kasur and spoke at a press conference, stressing the devastating effects of the floods in Punjab and urging federal support through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
According to Bhutto-Zardari, Punjab’s flood damage was widespread and evident in many places. He admitted that despite their best efforts, the provincial government was unable to handle the situation on its own. He called on the federal government to use BISP to provide assistance to impacted families, as was done in the past after floods.
In the areas hit by the floods, he suggested declaring an agricultural emergency.
