SLAMABAD: Party founder Imran Khan called the recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment, which gives lawmakers the authority to choose the chief justice, a “attack on Constitution of Pakistan” at a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTT) attorneys over the orders of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Following the meeting, PTI attorney Faisal Chaudhry told reporters that the imprisoned former prime minister had voiced his disapproval of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution.
Khan declined to comment on the selection of Justice Yahya Afridi as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), the attorney added. “The PTI founder said the nation has been tyrannised by this act,” the attorney said.
Faisal added that the former PM had praised the sacrifices made by PTI members and employees. “PTI founder is not afraid of any adversity,”
