The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was the target of a contempt of court petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday for failing to carry out the Supreme Court’s rulings in the case of the reserved seats.
Salman Akram Raja, a senior lawyer and PTI leader, submitted a petition that declared Sikandar Sultan Raja, the chairman of the nation’s top electoral body, a party.
The plea argues that the commission’s members should be held accountable and that the ECP should be directed to execute the decision right now.
“The aforementioned judgment and clarifications/orders leave no doubt whatsoever that the PTI is entitled to reserved seats proportionate to the seats in the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies won by it in accordance with the law,” the petition stated, citing the verdict.
