ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the federal government declared that November 9 (Saturday) would be a public holiday in honor of Iqbal Day.
This year celebrates Allama Iqbal’s 147th birthday, and the day commemorates his birth.
He is also referred to as the “Poet of the East” and was a major influence in motivating millions of Muslims on the subcontinent to build their own nation and fight for freedom from British domination.
Allama Iqbal, a celebrated poet and philosopher who was born in Sialkot in 1877, is internationally recognized for having used his writing and political clout to advocate for the establishment of a Muslim-only homeland.
