In favor of Maori rights, tens of thousands of people have marched on the New Zealand parliament.
Opposition to a proposal that could alter the nation’s foundational treaty between the native Maori people and the British crown prompted the massive masses to take to Wellington’s streets.
It was said that the march was probably the biggest demonstration in the nation’s history in favor of Maori rights.
“We’re fighting for our tamariki [children], for our mokopuna [grandchildren], so they can have what we haven’t been able to have,” Shanell Bob stated while she awaited the start of the march.
“It’s not like when I was a kid. Our tamariki [children] are stronger now, and they are proud of who they are and know who they are.”
