Authorities have promised stern punishment against any attempts to disrupt peace, and Punjab and Islamabad police have stepped up preparations to ensure law and order in the days leading up to the November 24 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstration.
At the request of Punjab’s police head, the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Operations sent a memo to all relevant authorities stating that more than 10,700 police officers from all around Punjab have been placed on standby.
According to the letter, 1,200 members of the Training Directorate, 1,000 members of the Special Protection Unit, and 3,500 members of the Punjab Highway Patrol make up the standby force.
Following the PTI’s call for nationwide protests on November 24 with former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Punjab police took this action.
