ISLAMABAD: Salman Akram Raja, the secretary general of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated that it is premature to speculate that Shah Mehmood Qureshi, a prominent member of the party, will assume the party’s leadership.
His comments were made the day after PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was cleared of all charges in the May 9 riot cases by a Lahore anti-terrorism court.
Raja told reporters at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday that Qureshi is unlikely to be released anytime soon because he still has eight or nine cases pending against him. He emphasized that considering the outstanding legal issues now pending in the courts, it is premature to talk about Qureshi’s possible release or leadership position.
