The leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) declared on Wednesday that the highly anticipated demonstration in Islamabad, which started on November 24 three days ago, has been canceled.
Following a crackdown by law enforcement, the party’s demonstrators were driven out of Islamabad’s Red Zone, prompting PTI founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to depart the protest site.
“We are announcing the temporary suspension of our peaceful protest in light of the government’s brutality and plans to turn the federal capital into a’slaughterhouse’ for unarmed citizens,” the PTI’s central media cell said in a press release on Wednesday.
