A long-held belief that Ted Lasso draws a lot of inspiration from The Wizard of Oz has been validated by Brett Goldstein.
The idea that Ted Lasso gives L. Frank Baum’s classic a contemporary twist has been resurrected by the excitement surrounding John M. Chu’s Wicked.
Goldstein, who was also a writer for the program, told Entertainment Weekly, “Oh yeah, there’s loads and loads of The Wizard of Oz in Ted Lasso.” The one that always says, ‘Ted has to go home,’ is the pinball machine. No location compares to home. Furthermore, Richmond, F.C., is unlike any other area. Yes, all of that is from Wizard of Oz.
The Shrinking Star also disclosed which Wicked character each character is based on, stating that the Tin Man served as the inspiration for his character Roy Kent.
