KARACHI: Only months after the Punjab government’s energy bill reduction program was introduced, a recent Gallup Pakistan survey found that 48% of Pakistanis are aware of it, while 47% are unaware of it.
Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, declared in August that the Punjab government has created a relief package for the poor, lowering the power bill for individuals using up to 500 units of energy by Rs 14 per unit.
“The relief will be given in the bills of August and September,” he stated.
Other provinces criticized the action, with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) denouncing the “use of provincial cards” in matters pertaining to power.
