PESHAWAR: Following claims that tear gas was used during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally in Islamabad, the Peshawar Central Police Office (CPO) has requested information regarding the tear gas supply.
Nearly 1,000 supporters of imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan were arrested by law enforcement when they invaded the federal capital this week to demand his release, the city’s police commander announced on Wednesday.
According to Ali Nasir Rizvi, the head of police in Islamabad, weapons such as tear gas guns and automatic rifles were taken from the protest location where thousands of people had congregated.
In contrast, Khan’s aides claimed—without offering proof—that hundreds of people had been shot amid tumultuous scenes overnight in the center of Islamabad as police broke up demonstrators headed by Khan’s wife who had breached security barriers.
