Senior journalist Matiullah Jan was placed under physical remand for two days on Thursday by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in connection with a complaint filed against him at the Margalla Police Station in Islamabad.
Prosecutor Raja Naveed asked for a 30-day physical remand after Jan, whose arrest had been verified by the Islamabad Police earlier in the day, was brought before ATC judge Tahir Abbas Sipra.
The judge, however, denied the plea and gave the police permission to physically hold the journalist for two days.
According to police, Matiullah was taken to Margalla Police Station after being taken into custody. Imaan Zainab Mazari-Haazir, a human rights attorney, claimed that when she went to see him, he was at the prison.
