Days after seeing a minor improvement, Lahore’s air quality index (AQI) deteriorated on Thursday, putting it back at the top of the list of the world’s most polluted cities.
Due to stringent efforts enforced by the Punjab government to enhance the AQI, the capital of Punjab has fallen to the second position on the list in recent days.
The megacity had the worst air quality in the world on Thursday, with an AQI of 611 at 10:30 this morning. The number of PM2.5 particles in the air was 381—76.2 times more than the World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual air quality guideline value.
The Swiss air quality technology considers the 600 threshold to be harmful to human health.
