Facebook-owner Meta was fined 251 million euros ($263 million) by an Irish body that assists in policing data privacy in the European Union on Tuesday for a data protection breach that resulted in Facebook accounts being compromised.
Meta was criticized by the Data Protection Commission (DPC) for a security vulnerability in its video upload feature that allowed hackers to fully access the Facebook profiles of other users.
In 2018, during the course of two weeks, about 29 million Facebook accounts worldwide were compromised by unauthorized individuals.
Email addresses, phone numbers, locations, and places of employment were among the personal information under question.
