Authorities confirmed that a crowd rush outside a cricket stadium in Bengaluru, India, on Wednesday killed at least 11 people as supporters celebrated Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s first Indian Premier League title victory.
As the team came in a bus in the evening, TV channels showed thousands of people lining the streets outside Chinnaswamy Stadium, some of them were flying the red flag of the home club. Others were climbing trees and the stadium wall to get a better view.
According to authorities, there was more unrest between the main arena and the periphery as the celebration went on, and some individuals outside without passes attempted to force their way through the gates.
People were seen climbing over others in photos taken at the scene.
