The government “would not accept any pressure” from the incoming US administration, which is led by President-elect Donald Trump, to engage in talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or free its founder, Imran Khan, according to Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday.
Regarding the Trump administration’s possible pressure in light of its loyalist Richard Grenell’s tweet calling for Imran’s release, Sanaullah responded, “We would not work under pressure of Donald Trump […] if any intervention is made then we would consider it as interference in our sovereignty.”
Grenell, who Trump appointed as his “envoy for special missions” earlier this month, had written “Release” to demand the release of former premier Imran, who has been detained at the Adiala jail since August of last year.
