ISLAMABAD, Pakistan The federal government said Monday that the PTI was obligated to demand its mandate, which the party says was “stolen” during the general elections on February 8. The opposition criticized the authorities for “not allowing” a meeting with the party’s imprisoned founder, Imran Khan, amid ongoing negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
“Whether now or later, PTI will definitely demand its mandate,” Rana Sanaullah, the prime minister’s political affairs advisor, stated during an appearance on the “Aaj Khanzada Kay Sath” show on News.
A judicial investigation into the events and the release of all political prisoners were the first two demands made by the Khan-founded party when the coalition government and the beleaguered PTI eventually sat down to soothe tensions after months of a political tug-of-war.
