KARACHI: Before choosing whether to include top-order batsman Saim Ayub in Pakistan’s provisional squad for the ICC Champions Trophy next month, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will await medical assessments from the London-based physicians.
Ayub was initially sidelined for six weeks due to a fractured ankle he suffered on the first day of the Cape Town Test match against South Africa.
The 22-year-old was then transported to the UK by the PCB for additional testing and specialized care.
Dr. Lucky Jeyaseelan, a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon in London, performed an initial evaluation on Ayub on Wednesday. Azhar Mahmood, the assistant coach for the Pakistani team, was with him.
According to those with knowledge of the situation, a second session with Dr. David is planned for Thursday.
