According to Army Chief General Asim Munir, cross-border terrorism, especially the existence of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) prohibited safe havens in the neighboring nation, is the primary source of tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In a meeting with leaders of several political parties in Peshawar, the army chief declared, “Our policy is only Pakistan.”
Additionally, the army chief reassured the leaders of various political parties that only intelligence-based operations (IBO) were being carried out against the militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and that no large-scale operation was planned.
The army chief described Afghanistan as an Islamic and brotherly nation, adding that Pakistan has always aimed for friendly relations with its neighbor.
The existence of Fitna al-Khawarij [TTP fighters] in Afghanistan is the only distinction with that country.
