John Kirby, a White House official, reiterated Wednesday that Pakistan was never a US tactical ally.
“The United States and Pakistan were never technically allies. When asked what the Joe Biden administration had done in response to Islamabad’s call against the rise in cross-border terrorism, Kirby responded, “I mean, there was no treaty of alliance with Pakistan,” during a news briefing in Washington.
He did concede, though, that Pakistan and the United States have fought together against terrorism on many times.
“But certainly, over many, many years in the last couple of decades, we partnered with Pakistan as appropriate to deal with the terrorist threat,” he said.
“… that still exists between Afghanistan and Pakistan on that spine.”
