The International Cricket Council (ICC) has selected Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka as the Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year for 2024 in recognition of his outstanding red-ball performances.
Mendis stood out in 2024 alongside some of cricket’s greatest players, scoring 1,451 runs at an average of just over 50 across all formats.
The left-handed batter, who had only played one Test match for Sri Lanka before the year started, completed the season not only securing his position as a vital member of the team across all formats but also emerging as the team’s go-to player in high-stakes and emergency scenarios.
He was crucial to Sri Lanka’s run for a position in the final of the ICC World Test Championship for the first time.
