KARACHI: Karachiites who have been annoyed by the annoyance of begging in public areas can now finally breathe easier, as the Sindh High Court’s constitutional bench ordered the traffic police to stop begging in the city on Wednesday.
“[The] Inspector General Traffic is directed to ensure that no begging is allowed in Karachi by any person,” the SHC ruling stated in response to a petition in which transgender people who engage in begging at traffic signals and other public areas were accused of harassing others and causing irritation.
Strict action against “begging by transgenders at traffic lights and other places” was demanded in the plea, which listed the Karachi commissioner, the chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the CEO of the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC).
