The Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) (Amendment) Bill, which requires rape victims to submit to DNA testing, was approved by the Senate on Monday.
The police officer in charge of the inquiry could now face jail time and a fine for not adhering to the new regulations.
Senator Humayun Mohmand introduced the law, which said that police officers will set up DNA testing for rape victims from government-approved labs, ideally within 72 hours of the incident.
The responsible police official faces a fine and up to three years in jail for breaking the law.
Syedaal Khan Nasar, the deputy chairman of the Senate, chaired a session today and approved the new changes.
