Cardinal Kevin Farrell revealed Pope Francis’ passing today, one day after he made his first extended public appearance since being released from a 38-day hospital stint for pneumonia on March 23.
Pope Francis, whose real name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was elected pope on March 13, 2013, and he served in that capacity until his death today at the age of 88.
Both leaders praised the Pope’s global influence and his steadfast dedication to human dignity, peace, and interfaith harmony in their messages.
