ISTANBUL: As one of the most powerful earthquakes in recent memory struck Istanbul on Wednesday, more than 150 people were hurt when they sprang from buildings.
As aftershocks from the magnitude 6.2 earthquake on the European side of the city continued to be felt, many people in the center of Istanbul gathered in parks, while others sat on doorsteps or stood outside their homes.
Neslisah Aygoren, who lives in Istanbul, stated, “It started with a big tremor all of a sudden, and we felt it very strongly,” while seated in a park.
“In terror, I rushed to my dog and gave it a hug as we lay on the ground and waited for it to stop. We then gathered our things and headed directly for the street.”
