The main reason King Charles isn’t going to the Vatican to attend Pope Francis’ funeral has been revealed by Buckingham Palace.
The royal expert Katie Nicholl stated in her article for Vanity Fair that King Charles “will not travel to the Vatican, in accordance with protocol and precedence, which dictates that the sovereign does not attend funerals.”
Prince William will attend Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican on Saturday on behalf of King Charles and the royal family, Kensington Palace announced earlier on Tuesday.
In accordance with contemporary custom, the palace announced that the heir will attend the service “on behalf” of King Charles III.
