Despite criticism for resurfacing tweets, Emilia Pérez actor Karla Sofía Gascón will attend the Academy Awards on March 2, 2025.
As is customary for movie studios when nominees attend award shows, Netflix will pay for Gascón’s travel and lodging costs for her attendance at the Oscars.
Her seating arrangement at the event is also still up in the air, as is her participation in interviews or red carpet appearances.
A journalist posted screenshots of the 52-year-old’s tweets, which included criticism of George Floyd, Islamophobic statements, and the 2021 Academy Awards, sparking the backlash against her.
Co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez addressed the incident in interviews, calling it “sad” and “disappointing,” while film director Jacques Audiard denounced Gascón’s remarks.
