As promised by the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), which is mediated by the World Bank, Pakistan would do everything in its power to protect its legitimate water share, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar.
Dar, who chaired a high-level conference on Monday to discuss the most recent developments, vehemently denounced India’s unilateral decision to put the pact on hold, calling it not only unlawful but also a breach of international law and accepted interstate relations standards.
He emphasized that the sanctity of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty must be upheld at all costs since it continues to be a vital foundation of regional peace and security. 240 million people in Pakistan depend on the waters of the Indus River System for their survival.
