A woman from Australia who is accused of preparing a deadly mushroom dish has admitted to gathering wild mushrooms, lying to police, and destroying evidence, but she will maintain that the “tragedy” was a “terrible accident” in court.
Erin Patterson’s 50-year-old Supreme Court trial got underway in the tiny Victorian town of Morwell on Wednesday and is anticipated to go for six weeks.
The lawsuit revolves around a beef Wellington supper at her home in July 2023, and she is accused of killing three relatives and attempting to kill another.
Ms. Patterson has entered a not guilty plea, and according to her defense team, she “panicked” after inadvertently giving poison to loved ones.
