In an effort to save the American film industry, which he claims is “dying a very fast death,” US President Donald Trump has declared plans to put a 100% tariff on any films produced outside the country, according to news reports.
Trump claimed in a post on his Truth Social platform that he had given the US Trade Representative and the Department of Commerce permission to start enforcing the law, referring to foreign incentives for film production as a “national security threat.”
Trump accused nations like the UK, Canada, and Australia of luring American studios and filmmakers with reduced production costs and tax breaks.
“It is propaganda and messaging on top of everything else!” he wrote. “Once more, we want American-made films!”
