An attempt by the administration of former President Donald Trump to remove the temporary legal status of some 400,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela was denied by a US federal appeals court, according to Reuters.
The 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals, located in Boston, denied a motion on Monday to overturn a lower court decision that had blocked the Department of Homeland Security’s intention to terminate the two-year parole that these migrants had been granted.
Initially, such parole had been approved under President Joe Biden.
For thousands of people who were given temporary legal residence on humanitarian grounds, the decision maintains their rights.
