The city of VATICAN: The Vatican announced on Monday that all 133 cardinals in the campaign to succeed Pope Francis have arrived in Rome for the secret conclave to choose a new pope.
All cardinals under 80 are eligible to participate in the conclave, which will begin Wednesday afternoon behind the Sistine Chapel’s wooden doors. Francis passed away last month.
While some cardinals are seeking a return to more traditional roots that prioritize dogma, others are searching for a next pope who will carry on Francis’s efforts to create a more open and inclusive Church.
