BOSTON: On Monday, a federal appeals court denied the administration of US President Donald Trump permission to remove the temporary legal status of hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans residing in the United States.
A judge’s ruling blocking the Department of Homeland Security’s attempt to shorten a two-year “parole” granted to the migrants under Trump’s Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, was not overturned by the Boston-based 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals.
The move by the government was a continuation of the Republican president’s extreme immigration enforcement and attempt to increase deportations, including of foreign nationals who had previously been legally allowed to live and work in the United States.
