UNITED NATIONS: Long before President Donald Trump drastically reduced US international aid, humanity experienced an unexpected and “unsettling” halt in development in 2024 as the post-pandemic recovery started to wane, the UN warned on Tuesday.
According to the UN’s Human Development Index (HDI), which tracks health, education, and living conditions, the globe has recovered from the shock of the COVID-19 pandemic by 2023.
But according to the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) annual report, which was made public on Tuesday, that recovery seems to be waning.
Achieving the previously desired levels of human growth by 2030 “could slip by decades” if that “unsettling” delay becomes into the new norm.
