While the Kremlin has not responded to the request, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, stated on Wednesday that his nation remains committed to its offer to observe a 30-day ceasefire in its conflict with Russia.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry denied that Moscow had resisted or was impeding attempts to implement a truce.
Both were speaking just hours before Russia’s proposed three-day truce was set to take effect on the anniversary of the country’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.
“Ukraine’s proposal to cease strikes and establish at least a 30-day ceasefire remains in force,” Zelenskiy stated during his weekly video presentation. “We are not withdrawing this proposal, which could give diplomacy a chance.”
