A strange development occurred when police torched over 20 tons of confiscated marijuana, unwittingly intoxicating thousands of people in the town of Lice in the Diyarbakır region of Turkey.
On April 18, 20 tons, 766 kilograms, and 679 grams of cannabis seized from anti-drug operations in 2023 and 2024 were destroyed by Turkish authorities. The town center was the site of the fire, which led to several public complaints and a local health emergency.
“We had been unable to open our windows for days,” a displeased resident stated. “Our kids fell ill. We visit the hospital frequently. Dizziness, nausea, and even hallucinations were among the symptoms that were described.
