MUSCAT: Amid an impasse over uranium enrichment, which Tehran has referred to as “non-negotiable” and Washington has referred to as a “red line,” Iran and the United States began the fourth round of nuclear negotiations in Oman on Sunday.
The talks, which come after previous rounds that started about a month ago, represent the highest level of communication between the two adversaries since Washington pulled out of a historic nuclear agreement in 2018, during the first term of President Donald Trump.
Before leaving for Muscat, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a video that “enrichment capability is one of the honors and achievements of the Iranian nation” and that the matter was “non-negotiable.”
“We had more consultations in Tehran this morning and in this round we hope to reach a decisive point,” he stated.
