On the first phase of a Gulf tour that also includes Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, US President Donald Trump arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday with the goal of striking commercial deals, despite the likelihood that agreements on the Middle East’s hotspots will be more difficult to achieve.
According to the White House, the US president is making his first significant international trip of his second term and is looking forward to a “historic return” to the area.
Trump also picked Saudi Arabia for his first foreign trip as president eight years ago, where he famously posed with a glowing orb and took part in a sword dance.
It is clear that he chose to visit the oil-rich Gulf states rather than his usual Western allies.
