As Israel’s blockade of Gaza enters its third month, the United States has announced that a new system for delivering humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza through private enterprises is being established.
In an attempt to stop Hamas from taking aid, US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee stated that food and other supplies will first be distributed to over a million people through “distribution centers” guarded by security companies.
He stated that Israel’s military would guard the perimeters of the centers but denied that it would participate in the distribution or transportation of aid.
As information about the contentious plan surfaced, UN agencies reaffirmed their refusal to cooperate, claiming it would “weaponize” aid.
