ISLAMABAD: In its ruling in the well-known case, the Supreme Court on Thursday maintained Zahir Jaffer’s death sentence for the murder of Noor Mukadam while partially altering other charges.
An industrialist’s son, Jaffer, attacked 27-year-old Noor Mukadam at his expansive estate in Islamabad in 2021. He used a “sharp-edged weapon” to decapitate her and tortured her with a knuckleduster.
In the notorious case, the order was given by a three-member bench that included Justices Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Ali Baqar Najafi, and Hashim Kakar.
The Supreme Court’s decision is a significant turning point in the trial of Noor’s horrific death, a case that provoked national discussion about justice and women’s protection as well as popular indignation.
