In appreciation of his outstanding leadership during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, which was initiated earlier this month in response to India’s unwarranted military assault, the federal government has elevated Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir to the rank of field marshal.
The attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), last month sparked the most recent armed conflict between Pakistan and India.
Following a federal cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a statement read, “The Government of Pakistan has approved the promotion of General Syed Asim Munir (Nishan-i-Imtiaz Military) to the rank of field marshal for ensuring the security of the country and defeating the enemy based on the high strategy and courageous leadership during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.”
