Due to abnormally warm sea surface temperatures, a low-pressure system has developed in the Arabian Sea, which might cause a heatwave to hit Sindh, including Karachi, between May 24 and June 1, according to meteorologists.
Currently hanging close to the western coast of India, the system has the potential to intensify into a severe depression or even a cyclone by May 24 or 25 if favorable circumstances persist.
Meteorologists warn that the sea wind is predicted to cease, causing daytime temperatures in Karachi to rise over 40°C.
The system would be called Shakti, which means “power” and was suggested by Sri Lanka, if it becomes a cyclone.
It’s still too early to tell where the system will go, according to experts.
