KARACHI: Ashab Irfan and Hamza Khan of Pakistan advanced to the quarterfinals of the South Australian Open Squash Championship on Wednesday after winning the second round.
The top-seeded Ashab Irfan dominated a 35-minute encounter, defeating Hong Kong’s Leo Chung 11-7, 11-5, 11-5. After losing the opening match against Egypt’s Shady Sherbiny, sixth-seeded Hamza Khan rallied to win the match 3-1 with scores of 5-11, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-4 over 48 minutes.
In Thursday’s quarterfinals, Khan, 20, will take on fourth-seeded Tomo Endo of Japan, and Irfan, 21, will take on Joachim Chuah of Malaysia. The PSA Challenger Tour 9 event, which is being held in Adelaide, has a $9,000 total prize fund for both men and women.
