According to a report by the provincial Education Department, thousands of children enrolled in more than 10,000 government schools spread across 28 inhabited districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are still denied basic amenities including boundary walls, power, restrooms, and clean drinking water.
The province’s public school system has serious infrastructure shortcomings, according to the data. Over 2,000 schools lack access to safe drinking water, over 5,000 lack electricity, and a comparable amount lack adequate restrooms and boundary walls.
According to the survey, 2,211 elementary schools lack electricity, with Mansehra and Upper Kohistan having the highest percentages (344) and 252, respectively. In Upper Kohistan, 1,253 primary schools lack restrooms, and 208 schools lack access to clean drinking water.
