Major General (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman, the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has apologized for the incident that occurred during the recent Senate hearing and said it was the consequence of a misunderstanding.
A confrontation had broken out the day before after the PTA chairman inappropriately asked Senator Aimal Wali Khan, the president of the Awami National Party (ANP), if he had used charas, a kind of handmade hashish.
He made it clear in a statement that he didn’t mean to use offensive or unparliamentary words. He clarified that a brief, casual interaction had taken place when the senators returned to the meeting and that he had already apologized to the committee if it had unintentionally offended anyone.
