ISLAMABAD According to Farhatullah Babar’s memoir, Asif Ali Zardari forced Gen. Pervez Musharraf to step down after gaining the approval of his successor, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
The book also reveals how the Triple One Brigade was sent outside the White House to increase pressure for Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s reinstatement.
The book, titled The Zardari Presidency, provides Babar’s first-hand recollection of the events he saw while serving as President Zardari’s spokesperson during his first term (2008–2013).
Zardari assessed Kayani’s response to the possibility of Musharraf’s overthrow, noting that Kayani did not resist and even proposed Aftab Shaban Mirani as the next president.
