Instead of being regarded as a region worthy of true development and autonomy, Southern Punjab has been the target of political manipulation for decades, being used as a negotiating chip by different political forces. The people of this region have been fed false promises while their fundamental necessities go unmet, whether it was by the Janoobi Punjab Mahaz (South Punjab Front) or more established political groups like the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The citizens have a strong sense of betrayal as a result of the ongoing neglect; they feel as though the leaders who are supposed to represent them have abandoned them.
Ironically, southern Punjab lacks enough infrastructure, high-quality healthcare, education, and job prospects despite being a center for agriculture and the economy.
