Waste disposal into the city’s stormwater drains is prohibited for two months by the Karachi government, starting on May 26 and ending on July 24.
Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which makes disposing of trash in drains a crime during this time, has been used to enforce the limitation.
The Karachi Commissioner’s notification states that the restriction is equally applicable to the general population, recyclers, and sanitation personnel. In preparation for the impending monsoon season, the action attempts to guarantee efficient drain cleaning and enhance the drainage system.
