Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took serious notice of the situation after hundreds of prisoners fled during an earthquake evacuation in Karachi’s Malir jail. He suspended the deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons and the superintendent of the jail with immediate effect and removed the inspector general of prisons from his position.
The chief minister described the incident as “completely unacceptable,” claiming that it showed egregious incompetence and carelessness on the side of the jail administration.
