ISLAMABAD: A special committee was established by the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee (NJPMC) on Friday to develop an institutional response to enforced disappearances.
According to a Supreme Court statement, the judgment was made at the committee’s 53rd meeting, which was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.
The committee unanimously decided that the judiciary will not compromise on its constitutional obligation to preserve fundamental rights. The committee was attended by the Additional Attorney General for Pakistan and included the top justices of all high courts.
Executive concerns conveyed through the Attorney General for Pakistan will be taken into consideration by the recently established committee on enforced disappearances.
